Learning never stops amidst global COVID-19 pandemic

According to UNICEF, the numbers are unprecedented, the implications enormous. As the COVID-19 pandemic has spread across the globe, a majority of countries have announced the temporary closure of schools, impacting more than 91 percent of students worldwide – around 1.6 billion children and young people.

Never before have so many children been out of school at the same time, disrupting learning and upending lives, especially the most vulnerable and marginalized.

In a statement from DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, “Education must continue even in times of crisis, whether it may be a calamity, disaster, emergency, quarantine, or even war.” DepEd is trying to ensure children can continue learning during these difficult times and that all children, regardless of status, have equal access to quality education.
